FredNats Pitchers Deliver 10th Shutout of the Season in 3-0 Win Over Shorebirds

Salisbury, M.D. - The Fredericksburg Nationals picked up their 10th shutout of the season in a 3-0 win over the Delmarva Shorebirds. Juan Reyes, Tony Neubeck, and Tyler Papenbrock all dazzled, allowing just three hits with two walks in the fastest game of the season at one hour and 52 minutes.

Nationals starting pitcher Juan Reyes was incredible tonight. The southpaw threw five scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and no walks with four strikeouts. Reyes allowed just two baserunners, the hit and a fielders choice that erased it in the first inning. He retired the last 13 men he saw, throwing just 48 pitches in five innings.

The FredNats starter was given a lead halfway through his outing. In the bottom of the 4th, after going nine up, nine down to start the game, the offense finally got going. With two outs, Hunter Hines walked to break through the perfect game. Juan Cruz then ended the no-hitter with a single, then Rafael Ramirez Jr. hit a three-run home run the opposite way into left center field to make it 3-0.

In the bottom of the 6th, Tony Neubeck made his professional debut out of the bullpen. The UDFA was spectacular, throwing three scoreless innings with five strikeouts, including striking out the side in a 1-2-3 8th inning. Tyler Papenbrock, another UDFA, entered for the 9th inning and faced just four batters, picking up his first career save.

With the win, the FredNats move to 17-3 against the Shorebirds this season. Tomorrow they have a chance to tie the most wins against a single opponent in a season. In 2024, the Nats beat the ‘Birds 18 times. RHP Leuris Portorreal is set to start for the FredNats in his return from the development list against RHP Esteban Mejia. First pitch from Perdue Stadium is set for 7:05 PM.
