FredNats Drop Back-to-Back Games, Falling 7-6 to Shorebirds

Salisbury, M.D. - The Fredericksburg Nationals gave up the winning run in the bottom of the 8th for the second straight night in a 7-6 loss to the Delmarva Shorebirds.

It was a slow start to the game, as the Shorebirds starter Collin McKinney struck out the side, then Delmarva loaded the bases on three straight infield singles to third base. FredNats starter Marlon Del la Cruz escaped the jam scoreless, but he couldn’t do the same after loading the bases in the 2nd. Stiven Martinez hit another ball to third and Rafael Ramirez committed a throwing error going for the third out of the inning on a throw across the diamond to first. Two runs scored to put the Shorebirds up 2-0. Martinez then picked up an RBI with a single in his next at-bat to make it 3-0 in the 4th inning.
The FredNats finally got on the board in the top of the 5th as Coy James singled into left center with the bases loaded. The Shorebirds responded right away with a run in the bottom of the 5th to go back up by three, ahead 4-1. Delmarva added on two more in the bottom of the 6th to go up 6-1.

In the top of the 7th, the Nats loaded the bases with just one out. Cristhian Vaquero walked to get it back to a four run game, Juan Cruz hit an RBI single then Hunter Hines came through with a two RBI single to make it 6-5. Ramirez then doubled to bring Cruz across and tie the game at 6-6. Carlos Sanchez hit an RBI double in the bottom of the 8th to give Delmarva a 7-6 lead. Fredericksburg went down 1-2-3 in the top of the 9th.

With the loss, the FredNats drop back-to-back against the Shorebirds. It’s the first time this season that Fredericksburg has lost two games in a series against Delmarva. The FredNats go for the series win tomorrow as a starter TBD takes on KK Clark. The game gets underway at 2:05 PM at Perdue Stadium.
