Six Run 1st Inning Leads FredNats to 10-8 Win Over Shorebirds

Fredericksburg, VA - The Fredericksburg Nationals won an offensive showdown 10-8 in the series opener against the Delmarva Shorebirds. Coy James led the way with a 456 home run and a hustle double.
It was a busy start to the game. In the top of the 1st, Stiven Martinez hit a three run home run to put Delmarva on top. Fredericksburg responded right away though. Shorebirds starting pitcher Esteban Mejia walked four in a row to start the game before being pulled. Jack Crowder entered out of the bullpen and tried his best to limit, but allowed a two RBI double to Dashyll Tejeda and a two RBI single to Luke Dickerson. The FreDNats led 6-3 after the opening inning.
The 2nd and 3rd innings were quiet, but both offenses woke back up in the 4th. Andrew Tess hit his first full season homerun to make it a one run game, then Coy James responded with a 456 foot moonshot blast to extend the FredNats lead back to three at 8-5.
The Shorebirds continued to fight, scoring one run in the 6th, 7th, and 8th. THe FredNats got some late offense as well though to stay in front. Coy James hit an RBI double in the 5th to bring home Cashel Duggar and Manny Cabrera had an RBI single to plate Christian Fagnant.
With the win, the FredNats have won three of their last four games. They’ll look to keep the momentum going tomorrow as RHP Landon Harmon faces off against RHP Andrew Herbert. First pitch from Virginia Credit Union Stadium is set for 6:35.
