Spencer is appearing as part of a fundraiser for the Tunnel to Towers Foundation. Since 9/11, Tunnel to Towers has been helping America’s heroes by providing mortgage-free homes to Gold Star and fallen first responder families with young children and by building specially-adapted smart homes for catastrophically injured veterans and first responders. Spencer, along with a representative from Tunnel to Towers, will be participate in a moderated pre-game conversation on the field about his memories of 9/11 and what the Yankees meant to New York City and the entire Tri-State area in the aftermath of the tragedy.

Spencer will throw out a ceremonial first pitch before the game and then sign autographs on the main concourse for a period of two hours. Fans can get any one item signed that they’d like for a $20 donation. All money collected will benefit the Tunnel to Towers Foundation. The evening’s 50/50 raffle will also benefit the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.

Spencer played in 538 Major League games, most notably with the New York Yankees from 1998-2002 when the team won three World Series Championships. In September of 1998, Spencer won over Yankees fans for hitting ten home runs, including three grand slams, in just 67 at bats.

In his five seasons with the Yankees, Spencer finished with a .263 batting average, 287 hits, 54 doubles, 43 home runs, and 167 RBI.

Spencer also has Major League experience with the Texas Rangers, Cleveland Guardians, and New York Mets. For his Major League career, Spencer has a .262 batting average, 438 hits, 84 doubles, 59 home runs, and 242 RBI.

Following his playing days, Spencer became a coach, including serving as Somerset's hitting coach from 2013-2015 (ALPB). He helped guide the Patriots to a 2015 championship.
