FredNats End Regular Season on Seven-Game Win Streak, Beat Warbirds 7-2

Fredericksburg, V.A. - The Fredericksburg Nationals finish the regular season on a seven-game win streak, taking down the Wilson Warbirds 7-2 in the final game before the playoffs. It’s the first six game sweep of the season for the FredNats.

LHP Juan Reyes, the reigning Carolina League pitcher of the week, put together one of the best starts of the season. The southpaw went 5.1 innings, allowing just two hits, with one walk and a career-high nine strikeouts. Reyes worked two 1-2-3 innings.

The FredNats gave their pitcher an early lead, as in the bottom of the 2nd, Rafael Ramirez Jr. hit an RBI single, plating Gavin Fien, to make it 1-0. It didn’t take long to add on more as in the bottom of the 3rd, Hunter Hines scored on a wild pitch to make it 2-0. In the 5th, Avery Ortiz entered the game and hit a pinch-hit double, plating Hines to make it 3-0.

The 6th inning was the biggest offensively of the day for the Nationals. Manny Cabrera brought home the first run of the inning before Hunter Hines hit a two RBI single, the only multi-RBI hit of the game for Fredericksburg. The Nationals added on one more run in the 7th on a Cabrera sacrifice fly.

With the win, the FredNats end the regular season on a seven game win streak. The franchise reach 80 wins for just the second time in the 22 years that it’s been affiliated with the Washington Nationals. The FredNats start the playoffs on the road in Fayetteville on Tuesday before returning home for game two on Thursday, and a potential game three on Friday. First pitch in game one against the Woodpeckers is set for 6:35 PM.
