Helena, MT - Today Minor League Baseball announced Brewers starter Aaron Ashby as the Pioneer League's Pitcher of the Week. Ashby garnered the award for his seven inning shutout performance against Ogden on Saturday, July 21st. He is the first Brewer to win a league award in 2018.
In his start on Saturday, Ashby went a career best seven innings, allowing just two hits. Ashby forced two double plays and faced just one over the minimum. He finished his outing with just 66 pitches, and recorded a five pitch inning in the seventh. Ashby issued just one walk and struck out four in the game.
Ashby was selected in the 4th round of the 2018 draft by the Milwaukee Brewers out of Crowder College in Kansas City, MO. A Kansas City native, Ashby compiled an 11-2 record this season at Crowder with a 2.29 ERA. He struck out 156 in 74.2 innings this season, striking out double digit batters in nine of his 13 starts. In three of his starts at Crowder, he left after five shutout innings with no hits allowed.
Aaron Ashby is the nephew of Andy Ashby, who pitched in the majors for 14 seasons. Andy won 17 games for the 1998 San Diego Padres en route to leading the club to the World Series. He, like his nephew, also attended Crowder College.
