Aces Gold Glove Infielder Carlos Rivero Released

The Arizona Diamondbacks announced today that they have released Aces infielder Carlos Rivero (@Carlos_Rivero3) and reports likely point toward the third baseman going to play professionally overseas.
Rivero, who entered his twelfth season and second with Reno after signing as a free agent this past offseason, originally signed with the Cleveland Indians as a non-drafted free agent on March 25, 2005.
Over his first five seasons of professional baseball, he played with the Cleveland organization, making his way up to Double-A Akron. Over the next four seasons following 2010, he spent time in the Philadelphia, Washington, Seattle, and Boston organizations.
In 2014, the Venezuela-native made his MLB debut with Boston, where he played in four games while going 4-for-7 (.571) with two doubles and a home run.  
Last season, Rivero was named as one of nine players in Minor League Baseball to earn a 2016 Rawlings Gold Glove Award®, his first of his professional career, and marking the second Aces player to receive the award in franchise history since Cole Gillespie in 2011. The then 28-year-old led all Minor League third baseman with a .987 fielding percentage in 110 games at the hot corner. He committed just three errors in 234 chances, while playing a role in 15 of Reno's 155 double plays turned, the second-highest total in the Pacific Coast League.
Rivero batted .283 in his career with the Aces and totaled 27 home runs in his one-and-a-half seasons with Reno, tied for eighth best in Aces all-time leaders, and 110 runs batted in, good for ninth on the all-time records list.  
"He is an absolute professional, both on and off the field," said Aces interim manager and hitting coach Greg Gross. "All around, he is a great player. Defensively, we always wanted the ball hit to him - the Gold Glove speaks for itself. I wish him nothing but the best moving forward."
Aside from his Gold Glove, Rivero received two All-Star bids - mid-season with Lake County (2007) and post-season with Syracuse (2012), and was named MiLB.com Organization All-Star in Philadelphia's organization following the 2011 campaign.
