CORPUS CHRISTI - Jorge Alcala is the Texas League Pitcher of the Week for June 4-10, league president Tim Purpura announced today.
Alcala, rated by MLB.com as the No. 4 Astros pitching prospect, spun five scoreless frames last night as Corpus Christi beat San Antonio, 8-2.
The 22-year-old out of the Dominican Republic struck out five against an infield single and one free pass. Alcala's week began with a four-inning save on Tuesday. He yielded just one run, and retired 11 of the final 13 Frisco hitters.

Listed by Baseball America as having the best fastball in the Houston system, Alcala owns a 2.84 ERA & 1.08 WHIP in 13 games (8 starts) between High-A Buies Creek and Corpus Christi. He is averaging 9.9 strikeouts per 9.0 innings.
Alcala is the second Hook to earn league pitcher of the week honors this season. Lefty Cionel Pérez has won the award twice (April 16-22 & May 14-20). Infielder Randy César was tabbed TL Player of the Week May 14-20.
