BURLINGTON, VT --- Alfonso Rivas was named the 2018 Tom Racine MVP Award winner in voting by Lake Monster fans and sponsored by the Burlington Free Press.

BURLINGTON, VT --- Alfonso Rivas was named the 2018 Tom Racine MVP Award winner in voting by Lake Monster fans and sponsored by the Burlington Free Press.

Rivas hit .285 (61-for-214) with 33 runs, 16 doubles, one triple, one homer and 28 runs over 61 games, while finshing fourth in the New York-Penn League with 36 walks and a .397 on-base percentage.
Oakland's fourth-round pick in 2018 draft out of the University of Arizona, Rivas hit safely in 43 of his 58 games started for the Lake Monsters, including each of the last nine (12-for-33, .364) and 18 of the final 21 (25-for-73, .342).
The Racine Award has been given out since the 1996 season and past winners include nine players who have gone on to reach the Major Leagues.
