Alvarez returns as 2026 Mud Hens Manager

TOLEDO, OH – The Detroit Tigers and Toledo Mud Hens are pleased to announce Gabe Alvarez will return as Manager of the Triple-A affiliate for the 2026 season.

This will be Alvarez’s second season as Mud Hens skipper and fifth season managing with the Tigers organization. He joined Toledo in 2025 and led the team to an 84-66 record with a third-place finish in the International League West division.

Prior to the Mud Hens, Alvarez served three seasons as Manager of the Tiger’s Double-A affiliate, the Erie SeaWolves. He won two league championships with the SeaWolves and was named 2023 Eastern League Manager of the Year. He began his coaching career at the University of Southern California where he spent 11 seasons as assistant coach.

Also returning to the Mud Hens for 2026 are Hitting Coaches Mike Hessman and Francisco Contreras and Pitching Coach Doug Bochtler. Joining the staff this season is Bullpen Coach Jimmy Robbins.

The Mud Hens begin the season on the road at Lehigh Valley, Friday, March 27. Opening Day at Fifth Third Field is Tuesday, April 7. Tickets are on sale now at mudhens.com.
