11 River Cats hits pace solid 6-3 win for Sacramento

MEMPHIS, TN - In their first matchup with the PCL-best Memphis Redbirds (68-41), the Sacramento River Cats (45-64) topped the Redbirds 6-3 with a well-rounded offense and an excellent pitching performance.

River Cats starter Shaun Anderson showed why he is a highly touted prospect by posting his best outing yet in Triple-A. The right-hander held the Redbirds to just two runs and five hits in seven innings of work.
Sacramento got on the board in the second inning when a balk and an RBI double from Grégor Blanco made it 2-0. After Memphis tied the game at two apiece, Jerry Sands helped the River Cats regain the lead with a two-run moonshot to left field. Mac Williamson added an RBI-single to push the lead to 6-2, and the River Cats would eventually take the series opener by the final score of 6-3.
All eight River Cats hitters recorded at least one hit on Wednesday, led by Gregor Blanco in the leadoff spot who had a double and two singles on the night.
This series continues tomorrow with game two against Memphis. Right-hander Tyler Herb (1-3, 6.23) takes the mound for the River Cats and the Redbirds will counter with right-hander Jake Woodford (2-2, 3.33). First pitch is set for 5:05 p.m. (PT). Additional Notes
· Seven innings ties Anderson's previous season-high which came on June 30 while he was with Double-A Richmond. On that day he pitched seven innings and allowed three earned runs for the Flying Squirrels.
· Sands crushed his third home run with Sacramento after hitting his first two in the same game on June 18 against the Fresno Grizzlies. He hit 13 homers in 78 games with Double-A Richmond this season.
