Anderson's gem helps Curve cap sweep in Reading

Four-run eighth inning puts game out of reach as Altoona wins fourth straight

READING, Pa. - Tanner Anderson fired eight scoreless innings and set a new career high with nine strikeouts as the Altoona Curve beat the Reading Fightin Phils, 6-2, on Wednesday afternoon at FirstEnergy Stadium to cap a three-game sweep.

The Curve (53-48) won their first road series against the Fightin Phils (54-48) since July 2012 and picked up their first-ever series sweep at FirstEnergy Stadium in franchise history.
Anderson (Win, 8-8) matched a career high with his eight innings and allowed one walk with a new career-high nine strikeouts.

The Curve took the lead in the third inning with a solo homer from Pablo Reyes, his eighth of the year. In the sixth, Edwin Espinal added to the lead with an RBI double against Reading starter José Taveras (Loss, 0-1).

The Curve scored four runs in the eighth to put the game out of reach. Espinal stretched the lead to 3-0 with a sacrifice fly, picking up his team-leading 69th RBI of the season. Jin-De Jhang followed with an RBI double.
Michael Suchy capped the four-run frame with a two-run double, extending the Curve lead to 6-0.

Miguel Rosario replaced Anderson to open the ninth and worked into a jam. He hit Carlos Tocci with a pitch and walked Kyle Martin to put a pair of runners on base with no outs, and Jiandido Tromp hit an RBI double to break up the shutout.
Reading loaded the bases with one out after a walk to Cord Sandberg, but Rosario picked up the second out of the inning with a strikeout of Jose Flores. Rosario followed with a bases-loaded walk to Drew Stankiewicz as Reading closed the gap to 6-2.
Sean Keselica (Save, 3) replaced Rosario and tossed one pitch to Zack Coppola, who popped up to Espinal at first base to end the game.
The Curve have tied their best winning streak of the season at four games. Over the last four games, Altoona starting pitchers have combined to go 4-0 with a 0.62 ERA.
With the win, the Curve moved back into a three-way tie for first place in the Eastern League Western Division with Bowie and Erie.
The Curve return home to open a four-day, five-game series against the E.L. Eastern Division-leading Trenton Thunder, Double-A affiliate of the New York Yankees. Right-hander Casey Sadler (1-1, 3.18) will start on the mound for the Curve, opposed by Trenton right-hander Yefry Ramírez (10-3, 3.23). First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Peoples Natural Gas Field
The gates open at 6 p.m for Thirstday, presented by Q94, with $2 specials on 16 oz. Miller Lite draft beers and regular-size sodas, plus $1 hot dogs. Plus, anyone who shows their My Sheetz Card at the box office can pick up $1 grandstand tickets, presented by Sheetz.
