Idaho Falls, ID - Extra innings have been solid ground for the Chukars this season, as they were 5-1 in extra frames going into tonight's game against Great Falls. The Chukars went into extras tied at one, but delivered as Rhett Aplin drove home the winning run with two out in the bottom of the tenth inning, giving the Chukars the 2-1 extra inning win. Idaho Falls has five walk off wins in 2019, with two of them coming courtesy of Aplin.
The Chukars got the party started right away as Tyler Tolbert led off the bottom of the first inning with a triple. He immediately scored on ground to second from Jose Marquez.
Alec Marsh got the start for the Chukars, as he went three scoreless innings to start the game for the Chukars. Cody Davenport pitched a perfect fourth inning, but then ran into trouble in the fifth. Luis Mieses started the inning with a double, and Tyrus Greene followed with a single through the right side, tying the game at one. Sam Abbott then followed with a single, but with Bryan Connell up Abbott was picked off of first. Tom Archer singled to right with two out, but Greene was thrown out at the plate, keeping the game tied.
Neither team scored the rest of regulation, and the game went into extra innings. Brad Bonnenfant came on to start the tenth inning with Mieses placed at second by rule. Greene grounded out to second, moving Mieses to third. Abbott was walked intentionally to put a double play in order. Anderson Comas pinch hit for Connell and struck out, and Archer popped out to first to leave the go ahead run at third.
Kember Nacero started as the placed runner at second in the bottom of the tenth and got to third on a sacrifice bunt from Tolbert. Marquez was intentionally walked to set up a matched with Hector Pineda, who struck out for the second out of the inning. Aplin stepped in next, and took the first pitch he saw from Connor Reich and drilled it into left for a base hit, plating Nacero to give Idaho Falls the 2-1 walk off win and the Chukars' sixth extra inning win in 2019.
Tomorrow night is Breast Cancer Awareness Night, as the Chukars will be wearing special breast cancer awareness jerseys. First pitch is scheduled for 7:15 PM, and tickets are still available by visiting ifchukars.com
