BUIES CREEK, NC -Edgar Arredondo turned perhaps the best starting pitching performance in Down East Wood Ducks history on Wednesday night despite the Woodies 3-2 loss to the Astros. Arredondo completed nine innings and struck out 12 - both career-highs all while not surrendering a walk.

His start was the 22nd in his career (in 45 career starts) in which he did not walk a batter. The right-hander retired the first 12 batters of the game before the Astros got on the board in the fifth with a double, single, and a fielder's choice. He closed his night by retiring the last 14 in a row and even struck out six in a row for the seventh and eighth innings.
It was a pitcher's duel on both sides as Buies Creek starter Carson LaRue also retired the first 12 batters of the game. He allowed a leadoff walk to Alex Kowalczyk in the fifth, then Andretty Cordero lined the next pitch to right-center for his first triple of the year.
Through five the score stood at 1-1, and would remain that way for the next four innings. The Woodies played their first extra-inning affair under the new rules in Minor League Baseball. Each extra inning begins with a runner on second base.
Cordero came through again in the 10th with an RBI single to center to bring home Tejeda. The Wood Ducks then turned to Jacob Lemoine from the bullpen for the save.
Yet three pitches into the bottom of the frame, Abraham Toro hit a home run to right and deliver a walk-off win for the Astros.
The Woodies look to avoid the sweep on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. with right-hander Jonathan Hernández on the mound. You can listen to every pitch of the season on WRNS Sports/Talk 960 The Bull or streamed on the TuneIn Radio app.
