The Greeneville Astros (27-24) and the Kingsport Mets (23-28) got off to a late start Monday night after a slight rain delay. Kingsport took advantage of a few costly errors by Greeneville plating five runs in the first three innings leading to their 6-1 victory.
Kingsport began the game with a one-out walk before Rigoberto Terrazas singled on a sharp liner to left field. Right fielder Wagner Lagrange flew out to center, but it was deep enough for Terrazas to tag up and advance to third before coming home on an RBI single by Juan Uriarte. A hit by pitch loaded the bases before a strike out stranded all three runners.
The Mets continued to bring runs across the plate adding two runs in both the second and third innings. A two out single in the top of the second kept the inning alive long enough for Hansel Moreno to notch his third home run of the season giving the Mets a three run lead. The two runs in the top of the third started with back-to-back singles as both runners advanced a base on a fielding error. Another fielding error in the outfield brought one run home and left runners on the corners setting up Grabiel Jimenez for a sacrifice fly giving the Mets a 5-0 lead.
Greeneville answered back with a run of their own in the bottom of the third inning. Center fielder Gilberto Celestino walked to start the inning and after consecutive strike outs, Celestino hustled on a fly ball to right by Patrick Mathis that was dropped scoring from first cutting the deficit to four runs.
Astros pitcher Jheyson Caraballo made a relief appearance in the top of the fourth inning and cruised along for five innings of work. Caraballo struck out three and only surrendered two hits and one unearned run. The sole run came in the eighth inning after Anthony Dirocie reached on a fielding error. After a pop out, Dirocie scored on an RBI single by Angel Manzanarez before he was thrown out trying to advance to second.
Greeneville will host Kingsport tomorrow afternoon for the series finale sending Hansel Paulino (2-1) to the mound facing off against Joe Cavallaro (2-1). First pitch is set for 11:30am.
