West Sacramento, Calif. - The Sacramento River Cats (22-23) returned to Raley Field Tuesday night and used six extra base hits to fuel the offense to a 10-7, series-opening win over the Salt Lake Bees (19-25).
Sacramento was down 4-1 going to the bottom of the third, but sent 12 batters to the plate in the inning, pushing across six runs on four hits, four walks and a costly error. The damage came from up and down the lineup tonight as all nine River Cats' hitters reached base safely and seven drove in at least one run.
Shortstop Abiatal Avelino did something that had not been accomplished since 2013. The 24-year old legged out his fourth triple of the season in the fourth inning, and then later added another in the seventh inning on a liner into the left field corner. The last River Cat to hit two triples in a game was Jemile Weeks on June 8, 2013 against the Tucson Padres.
Right-hander Dereck Rodríguez (1-0, 3.00) will make his second Triple-A start of the season in game two of four against the Salt Lake Bees. Salt lake will go with righty Parker Bridwell (1-3, 10.90). First pitch is set for 12:05 p.m. (PT). Catch all of the action live online at rivercats.com, on the MiLB First Pitch app, or on Money 105.5 FM beginning at 7:00 p.m.
Additional Notes

  • Abiatal Avelino hit his fourth and fifth triples of the year; Avelino is now in sole possession of second place in the PCL with five triples this season. Las Vegas's Jorge Mateo leads the league with nine three-baggers.
  • The Sacramento River Cats have been very productive in the third innings this season. The River Cats had a six-run third tonight and are now outscoring opponents 45-22 in the third inning this season.
