Odrisamer Despaigne pitched five scoreless innings and Brandon Barnes had three hits and three RBI to carry the New Orleans Baby Cakes to their first series victory of the season with a 7-0 shutout of the Omaha Storm Chasers.
The 'Cakes had gone their first 21 series of the year without a win, a club record, but put to rest any notion of extending the streak to 22 by scoring in each of the first four innings.
Barnes knocked in two runs in the opening frame with a bloop single to right, and doubles by Matt Juengel and Peter Mooney an inning later stretched the lead to 3-0.
Moisés Sierra belted his ninth home run of the season in the third, a solo shot to the opposite field. Barnes followed with a single and raced home on Cal Towey's triple into the right field corner.
Barnes, who also made a spectacular catch against the center field wall in the top of the seventh to rob Raul Mondesi of extra bases, capped his big night with an RBI double in the bottom of the inning.
Despaigne (1-4) limited the Storm Chasers to four hits in five innings to earn his first win. The right-hander struck out three without a walk. Victor Payano and Javy Guerra each chipped in two scoreless innings to complete the Baby Cakes' seventh shutout, tied for second-most in the Pacific Coast League.
Luke Farrell (7-4) lasted just three innings and gave up seven hits and five runs - four earned - to suffer the loss. Omaha has lost 12 of its last 15 games.
The 'Cakes open their final series before the All-Star break on Friday at 7 p.m. with the first of a four-game set against the Oklahoma City Dodgers.
