Ball, Olt Lead Sea Dogs to Doubleheader Sweep

Portland, Maine- The Sea Dogs (40-43) swept a doubleheader over the Reading Fightin Phils (50-35) on Saturday at Hadlock Field, winning game one 7-1 and game two 9-6. The doubleheader sweep was the second straight for the Sea Dogs, who have now won three consecutive games.

Game 1 Recap
Trey Ball (3-7) threw his first career complete game in a 7-1 Sea Dogs victory in game one. Ball allowed one run on just three hits and walked none while striking out a season-high tying seven. Ball retired the first 13 Fightins he faced before Jiandido Tromp hit a double down the right field line in the fifth.
 
Portland finished with 12 hits in game one, with Chad De La Guerra leading the way with three - including two doubles - as well as two RBIs and a run scored. Brock Holt went 1-for-2 with two walks, two runs scored, and an RBI. Rafael Devers and Michael Chavis each had two hits as well.
 
John Richy (1-3) allowed five runs on eight hits in four innings, walking four and striking out one.
 
Game 2 Recap
Reading jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second inning of game two on five consecutive singles of fof Taylor Grover. Portland got a run back in the bottom of the inning on an RBI single by Mike Olt, then took the lead for good in the third on a grand slam by Olt off of Alexis Rivero (3-2) to make it 6-3. The homer was his 12th of the year.
 
Olt finished with two hits and tied a career-high with five RBIs. Danny Mars had two doubles, two RBIs, and a run scored.
 
Grover went three innings in the spot start and allowed three runs on six hits with two walks and three strikeouts. Josh Smith (4-1) worked three scoreless innings in relief and allowed just two hits.  
 
Kyle Martin hit a three-run homer off of Bobby Poyner with two outs in the seventh to finish the scoring at 9-6 Portland.
 
Rivero allowed seven runs (six earned) on six hits in 2.1 innings for Reading.
 
The series continues tomorrow night at Hadlock Field for a 6:00 PM start. RHP Elih Villanueva (2-3, 9.93) is scheduled to start for Portland against LHP Cole Irvin (2-0, 3.46) of Reading. Tickets are still available and can be purchased online at SeaDogs.com or by phone at 879-9500.
