Banks dazzles in Memorial Day win over Potomac

WOODBRIDGE, Va. (May 28, 2018) - Tanner Banks struck out a season-high eight batters over eight innings, leading the Dash to a 10-1 win over the Potomac Nationals on Memorial Day at Pfitzner Stadium. 
Banks (3-2) threw just 86 pitches, and never registered more than 13 pitches in a single inning. The southpaw allowed just one run and did not walk a batter, scattering seven hits to earn his third consecutive win. It is also the third straight start that Banks has thrown at least seven innings. During this span, Banks is 3-0 with a 0.83 ERA.

Zach Remillard and Alex Call led the Dash offense in the 10-run, 11-hit output. Remillard went 3-for-4 with two doubles and a home run, and Call finished the game with a double and three RBIs. 
After Joan Baez (2-3) started the game with three perfect innings, Winston-Salem (28-23) struck in the fourth for two runs. Joel Booker led off the frame and was hit by a pitch, and he then moved to third on a double from Remillard. One batter later, Call brought in Booker and Remillard with a two-run double down the right-field line to put the Dash ahead 2-0. 
Potomac (26-21) scored its lone run in the bottom of the fourth. After Carter Kieboom led off with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt, he came in to score on a double into the left-field corner from Tres Barrera. 
Remillard added to the Dash tally in the sixth inning, when he blasted a solo home run to left field to lead off the inning, his third home run of the season.
From there, the Dash offense caught fire, plating mulitple runs in three straight innings against reliever Hayden Howard. Winston-Salem brought around two runs in the seventh inning, three in the eight inning, and tacked on two more in the ninth. 
In the seventh inning, Yermin Mercedes singled to lead off the frame. He later moved to third on a error by Brandon Boggetto and scored on a sacrifice fly Mitch Roman. Ti'Quan Forbes, who reached in the inning on a fielder's choice, scored on a bloop single from Booker. 
In the next inning, Forbes came to the plate with runners on second and third with two outs. The Mississippi native crushed a pitch from Howard over the left-field fence for a three-run homer, making it an 8-1 game. 
The Dash finished their barrage in the ninth. After Roman reach on an error, he moved to third on a ground-rule double from Remillard. Roman scored on a sacrifice fly from Call, and Remillard later crossed the plate on a single from Blake Rutherford. 
Blake Hickman pitched the final inning for the Dash, allowing one hit and tallying one strikeout to seal the victory.
Winston-Salem starts a three-game series with Myrtle Beach on Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. at TicketReturn.Com Field at Pelicans Ballpark. Right-hander Dylan Cease (6-2, 2.83 ERA) goes for the Dash against Pelicans left-hander Bryan Hudson (3-4, 6.42 ERA). Following their seven-game road swing, the Dash return to BB&T Ballpark for a three-game set against the Carolina Mudcats from Friday through Sunday.
