Barfield homers twice in 9-3 win at Harford

Hartford, Conn - The Portland Sea Dogs (63-73) hit four homers and received a three-run double by Michael Chavis, cruising by the Hartford Yard Goats, 9-3, Thursday night at Dunkin Donuts Park. Portland snapped an 11-game road-losing streak, playing their road game of the season.

Jeremy Barfield hit two homers, picking up his second multi-homer game of the season. He leads the team with 26, which is tied for second in the Eastern League.
 
Dedgar Jimenez (5-0) earned the win in his final start of the season, tossing 5.1 innings on four hits, one run, three walks and three strikeouts. Jimenez won 15 games between Portland and High-A Salem, the most among Red Sox minor leaguers.
 
Portland took a 1-0 lead off Jack Wynkoop (5-11) in the fourth inning on a one-out solo-homer by Barfield. The blast for Barfield was his 25th of the season, and the first ever homer over the batter's eye at Dunkin Donuts Park.
 
Danny Bethea (2-for-4) knocked home a run with a single in the fifth and Josh Tobias (2-for-5) smacked a homer in the sixth.
 
Jimenez allowed his only run in the sixth inning on a run-scoring triple by Dom Nuñez. Chavis delivered the knockout punch in the seventh with a bases-clearing double off Matt Pierpont.
 
The Yard Goats scored two unearned runs off Ty Buttrey, who worked 2.1 innings and fanned three.
 
Portland put the game away in the ninth inning. Barfield crushed a two-run homer and Josh Ockimey (2-for-5) followed with a solo-shot.
The 'Dogs finished 28-41 on the road and 9-12 against the Yard Goats this season. 
The Sea Dogs return home to start their final homestand of the year on Friday night against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Blue Jays affiliate). LHP Trey Ball (6-12, 5.38) makes the start against RHP Jon Harris (7-10, 5.33). Friday is the final fireworks show of 2017. Tickets are available at seadogs.com or 207-879-9500.
