(Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium - Vancouver, B.C.) - With a laundry list of accolades and accomplishments in tow, Baseball Hall of Fame pitcher Gaylord Perry is set to join the Vancouver Canadians out at historic Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium on Monday, July 3rd at 7:05pm.
Perry, now 78, is one of baseball's legends recording 314 wins over his 22 Major League seasons including ten seasons with the San Francisco Giants playing alongside the likes of Willie Mays, Orlando Cepeda and Juan Marichal. A five-time All-Star, Perry won a pair of Cy Young Awards after going 24-16 as a 33-year old arm with the Cleveland Indians. He would win his second Cy Young in the National League at the age of 39 with the San Diego Padres after going 21-6.
One of his claim's to fame was his infamous 'spitball' that played with the mental side of the game. Hitters in stare at Perry on the mound as the right-hander would fidget with his hat, arm, neck, and anything else that allegedly had a wide variety of substances from vaseline to pine tar. He would get inspected time after time by umpires throughout baseball and never got caught until his 21st season.
