PEARL, Miss. (May 10, 2017) - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, jumped in front in the first inning, recorded 12 hits in the game, and held on to defeat the Mississippi Braves 6-5 Wednesday at Trustmark Park.
Four players finished with multi-hit games, including David Fletcher and Forrestt Allday . Fletcher recorded his first three-hit game of the season, going 3-for-5. Allday went 2-for-3 with a pair of walks to extend his on-base streak to 16 games. He has collected multiple hits in six of his last nine games.
The BayBears (13-20) sent eight men to the plate in the first inning and scored a trio of runs against Matt Withrow (1-1). Mobile added two more on Fletcher's two-run single in the fourth, and Wade Wass homered in the fifth to make it 6-2. Wass has now hit three home runs in his last seven games.
Grayson Long (1-2) pitched five innings and earned his first win of the season. Long gave up two runs on four hits in the first two innings, including a Ronald Acuña Jr. homer, but allowed just one more hit over his final three innings of work.
The Braves (17-16) plated runs against Eric Karch , Justin Anderson , and Adam Hofacket in the eighth and ninth to cut Mobile's lead to 6-5. However, Hofacket struck out Joey Meneses with runners on second and third to close out the game.
The BayBears continue the five-game road series Thursday at 7:00 p.m. CT against Mississippi.
