One night after thunderstorms prevented the Tulsa Drillers and Midland RockHounds from playing, Logan Bawcom got the start on the mound for Tulsa Saturday night and was nearly unhittable. Offensively, Mike Ahmed led the way with a homer and three RBI as the Drillers shut out the RockHounds 4-0 at Security Bank Ballpark in Midland.
The Drillers got the scoring started in the top of the third. With one out, Drew Jackson knocked his team-leading 17th double of the season. One pitch later, Errol Robinson crushed a double to center allowing Jackson to score the first run of the night.
An inning later, Will Smith reached on a fielding error, and Zach Reks singled to put runners at first and second. After a groundout advanced the runners into scoring position, Ahmed brought home the second Drillers run with a sacrifice fly.
Smith led the top of the sixth off with a walk, and Reks doubled to put the pressure back on Midland. Ahmed picked up his second RBI of the game by singling to left to put the Drillers on top 3-0.
The RockHounds had a difficult time figuring out Bawcom, as he turned in his best start of the season. He struck out eight and gave up only two hits in 5.2 fantastic innings of work.
Ahmed hit a solo home run in the ninth to extend the lead to 4-0. The Drillers bullpen shut down the RockHounds offense the rest of the way to secure the shutout.
WHAT YOU MISSED
Ahmed's three RBI are a season high for the infielder.
Brian Moran, Corey Copping and Dylan Baker combined for 3.1 shutout innings for the Drillers bullpen. They allowed only two hits and struck out four.
In addition to Ahmed, Reks and Jackson also had a pair of hits for the Drillers.
The Drillers and RockHounds will make up Friday night's rainout in Tulsa at ONEOK Field in a doubleheader on Thursday, July 5. The Drillers will be the home team in both games.
