MOBILE, Ala. (April 16, 2018) - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, could not recover after falling behind early against the Biloxi Shuckers and dropped the opening game of the series 5-1 Monday night at Hank Aaron Stadium.
Brennon Lund went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate and scored the only run of the game for the BayBears (4-6) on Taylor Ward 's sacrifice fly in the sixth inning. However, Mobile went 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position.
Dylan Unsworth (0-2) took the loss, giving up three runs on seven hits with four strikeouts in five innings pitched. Vicente Campos gave up two runs on four hits in his first outing with Mobile since 2016, when he was a member of the Diamondbacks organization.
Zach Gibbons extended his hit streak to 10 games with a single in the second inning.
Corey Ray, Troy Stokes Jr., and Jake Hager all had three hits in the game for Biloxi (9-2). Ray finished a home run shy of the cycle, Hager finished a triple away from the cycle, and Stokes legged out two doubles and a triple. In addition to Hager's solo home run, Blake Allemand also went yard for the first time this year.
Cody Ponce (1-0) held the BayBears to a run on four hits in the win. His scoreless streak against the BayBears, which dated back to last year, ended after 17 1/3 innings when Ward plated Lund in the sixth.
The BayBears continue the five-game home series against Biloxi Tuesday at 6:35 p.m. CDT.
