BayBears bested by Biloxi, held scoreless in series finale

Pena only allows two runs, one earned, but takes loss

BILOXI, Miss. (August 25, 2017) - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, were kept off the scoreboard in a 4-0 loss to the Biloxi Shuckers in the series finale Friday night at MGM Park.
The BayBears (61-68 overall, 31-29 second half) were held to just three hits and were unable to plate a run, despite having runners in scoring position in the seventh and eighth innings.
Luis Pena (1-1) allowed two runs, one earned, in the second and fifth. He gave up five hits and struck out four batters in 4 1/3 innings pitched. Justin Anderson tossed 1 2/3 scoreless innings, and then Damien Magnifico pitched the final two frames. He gave up two runs on a two-out Clint Coulter double in the seventh.
Mobile mustered just two hits against Cody Ponce (1-0), who earned the win for Biloxi (65-62, 29-29) in his Double-A debut. Ponce took a no-hitter into the sixth inning before Tim Arakawa hit a one-out single. Nick Ramirez got the final six outs without allowing a hit to record his third save.
The BayBears begin a five-game road series against Montgomery Saturday at 6:35 p.m. CT. Right-handed pitcher Jesus Castillo (0-0, 4.61 ERA) is scheduled to make the start against righty Edwin Fierro (6-3, 2.80 ERA) for the Biscuits.
