BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (June 29, 2019) - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, were shut out 5-0 by the Birmingham Barons in the series finale Saturday night at Regions Field.
Despite putting two runners on base in the fifth and loading the bases in the seventh, the BayBears (31-47 overall, 4-6 second half) failed to push across a run. John Parke (1-0) retired the first 12 batters of the game and pitched seven scoreless innings for Birmingham (33-46, 6-4).
For the second straight game, Mobile's bullpen kept the Barons off the board. After Zack Kelly (1-3) allowed five runs on seven hits in a five-inning start, Birmingham collected just two additional hits against Jesus Castillo and Dario Beltre .
White Sox top prospect Luis Robert went 2-for-4 in the game with a double and a run scored. Blake Rutherford went 2-for-4 with RBI singles in the third and fifth.
The BayBears begin a four-game road series against the Biloxi Shuckers Sunday at 4:35 p.m. Right-handed pitcher Andrew Wantz (0-1, 4.40 ERA) is scheduled to make the start against southpaw Cameron Roegner (1-2, 4.91 ERA) for the Shuckers.
