BayBears blanked by Biloxi in season finale

Despite loss, Pena records quality start in final outing of 2017

MOBILE, Ala. (September 4, 2017) - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, were shut out 5-0 by the Biloxi Shuckers in the season finale Monday afternoon at Hank Aaron Stadium.
Luis Pena (1-3) gave up just one run on four hits in six innings pitched, but he took the loss in his fourth Double-A outing. However, it was his second quality start.
Dustin DeMuth got Biloxi (71-66 overall, 35-33 second half) on the board first with an RBI single in the second inning. Jacob Nottingham increased the lead with an RBI double in the seventh. Two batters later, Angel Ortega belted a three-run homer to left field.
Cody Ponce (2-1) earned the win, giving up just three hits in six scoreless innings. Jon Perrin pitched three hitless frames to record his first save.
The BayBears open the 2018 season at home against the Pensacola Blue Wahoos on Thursday, April 5, and host 70 games at Hank Aaron Stadium through next Labor Day.
