BILOXI, Miss. (August 24, 2017) - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, batted around twice and matched a season-high with 12 runs in a 12-5 win over the Biloxi Shuckers Thursday night at MGM Park.
The BayBears (61-67 overall, 31-28 second half) plated four runs in the first inning and five in the eighth, accounting for the majority of the runs. Matt Thaiss and Zach Houchins both hit home runs in the first and second, respectively, against Jon Perrin (5-3). Thaiss finished 2-for-3 with two RBI, three runs scored, and three walks. Houchins recorded his team-high 33rd multi-hit game of the season.
After grabbing an early four-run advantage, Blake Allemand drove in three runs with a pair of singles to cut the Mobile lead to 5-3. However, Abel De Los Santos (4-1) and Adam Hofacket combined to keep the Shuckers (64-62, 28-29) off the board from the fourth inning through the seventh.
The BayBears added seven runs over the final three frames to break the game open. Jacob Nottingham and Jake Gatewood hit solo home runs for Biloxi in the eighth and ninth.
The BayBears wrap up the five-game road series against Biloxi Friday at 6:35 p.m. CT. Right-handed pitcher Luis Pena (1-0, -.-- ERA) is scheduled to make the start for Mobile.
