BILOXI, Miss. (June 28, 2018) - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, erased an early four-run deficit and defeated the Biloxi Shuckers 9-4 in the series opener Thursday night at MGM Park.
After giving up four runs in the second inning, Alex Klonowski (4-1) and Adrian Almeida combined to hold the Shuckers (45-32 overall, 4-3 second half) hitless for the final seven frames. The pair worked around four walks to keep Biloxi off the board, while the Mobile (41-34, 4-3) offense tallied nine unanswered runs.
Jack Kruger matched his career-high with four RBIs to lead the comeback effort. His two-run single in the third helped the BayBears cut the deficit to 4-3, and he led off the fifth with a home run to give Mobile a 6-4 lead. Kruger added a run of insurance with an RBI double in the eighth to cap off a three-run inning and stretch the advantage to 9-4.
Following the three-run third, Riley Unroe hit an RBI single in the top of the fourth to tie the game. Zach Gibbons scored on a throwing error to give the BayBears a 5-4 lead.
