MOBILE, Ala. (August 31, 2019) - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, hit a late home run but dropped Saturday night's game 10-3 to the Tennessee Smokies at Hank Aaron Stadium.
Jhoan Urena blasted a three-run shot to right field in the ninth inning to plate the first BayBears (49-85 overall, 22-44 second half) runs. It was his ninth home run of the season. Mobile has hit four home runs in the first three games of the series.
Cory Abbott (8-8) struck out 10 batters in a six-inning start, allowing just two hits for the second time against the BayBears this season. Tennessee's (57-80, 24-44) pitching staff fanned a total of 14 in the game.
Six of the nine players in the Smokies batting order recorded multiple hits. Jhonny Pereda went 3-for-5 and led the team with three RBIs. Cubs top prospect Nico Hoerner had his fifth straight multi-hit game and extended his on-base streak to 28 consecutive games.
Luis Madero (5-11) took the loss, giving up five runs on nine hits in four innings pitched.
The BayBears continue the final five-game home series of the Farewell Season against Tennessee Sunday at 2:05 p.m. Left-handed pitcher Greg Mahle (2-3, 2.39 ERA) is scheduled to make the start against righty Erich Uelmen (0-2, 6.84 ERA) for the Smokies.
