MOBILE, Ala. (August 2, 2017) - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, increased their win streak to a season-long five games with a 6-2 victory over the Mississippi Braves Wednesday night at Hank Aaron Stadium.
After grabbing an early 1-0 lead, the BayBears (50-58 overall, 20-19 second half) added four runs in the third inning off Andres Santiago (0-2) to break the game open. Troy Montgomery came home on a wild pitch, Zach Houchins scored on a fielder's choice, and Josè Briceño hit a two-run single.
BayBears starter Jhondaniel Medina gave up just one hit in three scoreless frames. Abel De Los Santos (3-1) and Simon Mathews gave up two runs on five hits over the next five-plus innings. Michael Dimock gave up one hit in the ninth but got the final three outs with two runners on base.
Travis Demeritte provided both runs for Mississippi (46-63, 12-27) with a pair of solo home runs to lead off the fifth and ninth innings. It was Demeritte's second multi-homer game of the season.
In addition to the season-long five-game win streak, the BayBears have also won six straight home games, dating back to July 23 against the Chattanooga Lookouts.
The BayBears wrap up the six-game home series against Mississippi Thursday at 6:35 p.m. CT. Right-handed pitcher Alex Blackford (1-3, 4.29 ERA) is scheduled to make the start for Mobile against southpaw Kolby Allard (6-9, 3.56 ERA) for Mississippi.
