MONTGOMERY, Ala. (April 29, 2018) - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, scored five runs in the top of the eighth inning and defeated the Montgomery Biscuits 7-5 Sunday afternoon at Riverwalk Stadium.
After Montgomery (8-16) plated a trio of runs in the seventh to take a 5-2 lead, the BayBears sent 11 batters to the plate in the eighth. Taylor Ward and Hutton Moyer both hit RBI singles to cut the deficit to 5-4. Jose Rojas hit an RBI infield single off Dalton Moats (0-1), and Jake Yacinich was hit by a pitch to give Mobile (12-11) its first lead. Bo Way drew a bases-loaded walk to cap off the scoring in the frame.
Conor Lillis-White and Greg Mahle combined to keep the Biscuits off the board in the final two innings. Mahle earned his first save of the season.
Ward recorded his team-high 10th multi-hit game of the season, going 2-for-5. He has reached base safely in 13 straight games. Moyer drove in a pair of runs and leads the league with 19 RBIs.
Jose Suarez struck out seven batters in a four-inning start but did not factor in the decision. Suarez fanned six consecutive hitters from the second inning to the fourth. Samil De Los Santos (1-0) picked up the win, despite giving up three runs on two hits in the seventh inning.
Eduar Lopez pitched five scoreless innings for Montgomery and gave up just two hits.
The BayBears wrap up a five-game road series against Montgomery Monday at 10:35 a.m. CDT. Right-handed pitcher Jesus Castillo (2-1, 4.12 ERA) is scheduled to make the start against righty Benton Moss (1-2, 3.32 ERA) for the Biscuits.
