BayBears drop extra-inning battle against Shrimp

BayBears score two early runs, Long records quality start

MOBILE, Ala. (August 17, 2017) - For the third straight game, the Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, let a lead slip away in a 6-2 loss to the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp in 10 innings Thursday night at Hank Aaron Stadium.
The BayBears (56-65 overall, 26-26 second half) got on the board first, as Brennon Lund scored on Taylor Ward 's sacrifice fly in the third inning. Zach Gibbons crossed home on a two-base fielding error the following inning to increase Mobile's lead to 2-0.
Grayson Long recorded a quality start in a no-decision. He allowed one run on five hits with six strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings.
Jacksonville (57-64, 27-24) tied the game with a David Vidal solo home run in the eighth inning. In the 10th, the Jumbo Shrimp plated four runs to break the 2-2 deadlock. Braxton Lee put the Jumbo Shrimp in front with an RBI single off Conor Lillis-White (2-4), and then John Norwood and Taylor Ard added RBI doubles.
Matt Tomshaw gave up just four hits in seven innings pitched. He did not factor in the decision either. Tyler Kinley (1-2) earned the win, tossing two frames of scoreless relief.
The BayBears continue the five-game home series against Jacksonville Friday at 7:05 p.m. CT. Right-handed pitcher Jake Jewell (7-8, 4.64 ERA) is scheduled to make the start against righty Trevor Richards (4-4, 2.67 ERA) for the Jumbo Shrimp.
