MOBILE, Ala. (April 18, 2018) - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, hit a pair of home runs and defeated the Biloxi Shuckers 6-5 in a back-and-forth game Wednesday night at Hank Aaron Stadium.
Matt Thaiss hit his second home run, a game-tying three-run homer in the fifth inning to tie the game 5-5. Hutton Moyer hit his league-high sixth of the year in the first to give Mobile (6-6) an early 2-1 lead.
Jose Suarez struck out nine batters and allowed just two runs, one earned, in his Double-A debut. He tossed 3 2/3 innings and gave up six hits but did not issue a walk. Ryan Clark (1-0) was the winning pitcher in his first outing with the BayBears, holding Biloxi (9-4) to just one hit in 2 1/3 innings. Jake Jewell earned his second save with a pair of scoreless frames.
With the game tied 5-5 in the bottom of the sixth, Wade Wass was hit by a pitch from Josh Uhen (0-1) with the bases loaded to put the BayBears ahead for good.
The BayBears continue the five-game home series against Biloxi Thursday at 6:35 p.m. CDT. Right-handed pitcher Jesus Castillo (1-1, 9.00 ERA) is scheduled to make the start against righty Adrian Houser (0-0, 9.00 ERA) for the Shuckers.
