CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (June 7, 2018) - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, held off multiple rallies from the Chattanooga Lookouts to win the series finale 9-7 Thursday night at AT&T Field.
With the game tied 7-7 in the ninth, Zach Houchins delivered with a two-out single off Zack Jones (1-1) to drive in a pair of runs. He finished with three hits and four RBIs, including a solo home run in the third. Matt Custred worked around a two-out triple in the bottom of the ninth to earn his fourth save.
Luis Rengifo reached base in all five of his plate appearances and scored four runs. He went 2-for-2 with two walks, a hit-by-pitch and a solo home run in the third. Following the two home runs, the BayBears (33-26) added four more runs in the top of the fifth.
Griffin Canning 's scoreless streak came to an end after 15 2/3 consecutive innings. He gave up four runs in a six-run Chattanooga (33-27) fifth that tied the game 6-6. After Rengifo scored on a Houchins single in the top of the seventh, Edgar Corcino tied the game with a home run off Tyler Stevens (2-0) in the bottom of the seventh.
The BayBears begin a five-game home series against the Jackson Generals Friday at 7:05 p.m. CDT. Right-handed pitcher Jesus Castillo (4-4, 5.06 ERA) is scheduled to make the start against righty Justin Donatella (3-3, 3.28 ERA) for the Generals.
