MOBILE, Ala. (May 27, 2018) - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, came back to tie the game twice but never held a lead, falling to the Biloxi Shuckers 6-3 in the series finale Sunday afternoon at Hank Aaron Stadium.
Jesus Castillo recorded his team-high third quality start, but he left with the game tied and did not factor in the decision. He allowed three runs on eight hits over six innings pitched.
Jake Gatewood hit solo home runs off Castillo in the sixth and Adrian Almeida (1-1) in the eighth to help lift Biloxi (30-20) to a three-run victory. It was Gatewood's fourth career multi-homer game. The Shuckers scored runs in six of the nine frames.
The BayBears (26-23) tied the game 2-2 in the fifth and 3-3 in the sixth but never jumped in front, despite having plenty of chances with the bases loaded in the sixth, seventh, and ninth. Miguel Sanchez (1-0) earned the win in relief, while Nate Griep recorded his league-high 17th save.
Connor Justus reached base in all five plate appearances, with three singles and two walks. It was his first three-hit game since Opening Day.
Trey Supak gave up two runs on five hits over five innings pitched in his Double-A debut.
