BayBears outlast Wahoos in Saturday night slugfest

Two Mobile homers, four for Pensacola; Lund goes yard in ninth

PENSACOLA, Fla. (August 12, 2017) - For the second straight night, the Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, scored in the ninth inning, defeating the Pensacola Blue Wahoos 8-7 Saturday night at Blue Wahoos Stadium.
With the game tied 7-7 entering the final frame, Brennon Lund led off with his first Double-A home run off Carlos Gonzalez (1-3) to give the BayBears (56-61 overall, 26-22 second half) the lead. It was the second long ball of the game for Mobile and the sixth combined between the two teams.
Josè Briceño hit his second home run of the series, a two-run shot in the fourth inning, to tie the game 3-3. The BayBears added four runs in the sixth inning, including an RBI triple by Briceno and RBI singles for Zach Gibbons and Bo Way . Lund capped the scoring with a sacrifice fly.
All seven Pensacola (61-57, 21-27) runs came on homers, and Mobile's 7-3 lead was short-lived. In the bottom of the sixth, Josh VanMeter hit a two-run homer, and Aristides Aquino and Brian O'Grady added solo blasts to tie the game.
Abel De Los Santos (3-1) retired all six batters he faced to earn the win in relief.
The BayBears continue the five-game road series against Pensacola Sunday at 4:05 p.m. CT. Right-handed pitcher Jaime Barria (1-4, 3.25 ERA) is scheduled to make the start against righty Austin Ross (7-0, 1.50 ERA) for the Blue Wahoos.
