KODAK, Tenn. (July 15, 2019) - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, exploded with five runs on eight hits in the final two innings of a 6-3 win over the Tennessee Smokies Monday night at Smokies Stadium.
Brandon Marsh led the BayBears (39-53 overall, 12-12 second half) with three extra-base hits and three RBIs. His solo home run with one out in the fourth inning was the first hit for either team. Marsh plated a pair of runs with his second double of the game in the eighth.
Jeremy Beasley 's scoreless streak was snapped after 18 innings on a Connor Myers home run in the sixth to tie the game 1-1. Beasley allowed just one Tennessee (42-52, 9-16) run on four hits in 5 1/3 innings, but he did not factor in the decision.
Luis Pena (2-0) gave up just one hit in 2 1/3 innings to earn the win, and Joe Gatto recorded his second save.
The BayBears tagged Allen Webster (0-1) for five consecutive hits in the eighth inning. Webster did not record an out, and the BayBears plated three runs to grab the lead for good.
The BayBears wrap up the six-game road series against Tennessee Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. CDT. Right-handed pitcher Zack Kelly (1-5, 4.24 ERA) is scheduled to make the start against righty Erick Leal (1-0, 1.80 ERA) for the Smokies.
