BILOXI, Miss. (June 30, 2018) - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, added four late runs to defeat the Biloxi Shuckers 8-3 Saturday night at MGM Park.
After the Shuckers (45-34 overall, 4-5 second half) cut Mobile's lead to 4-3, Brennon Lund came through with his first career grand slam in the ninth inning. The four runs of insurance gave the BayBears (43-34, 6-3) their largest lead of the game.
Joe Gatto (2-3) recorded his first quality start at the Double-A level. He gave up two runs on six hits in six innings pitched, with the runs coming on a Corey Ray homer in the third. The BayBears provided four runs of support with a three-run first inning and a Roberto Baldoquin RBI triple in the third against Thomas Jankins (8-4).
Zac Ryan earned his first save with Mobile, tossing two scoreless frames to close out the game. With runners on second and third with one out in the eighth, Ryan preserved the 4-3 lead by striking out consecutive batters to end the inning.
Jack Kruger and Brandon Sandoval both matched their career-highs with four hits.
The BayBears continue the six-game road series against Biloxi Sunday at 4:05 p.m. CDT. Right-handed pitcher Sean Isaac (0-0, 9.00 ERA) is scheduled to make the start against righty Marcos Diplan (0-0, 0.00 ERA) for the Shuckers.
