MONTGOMERY, Ala. (May 3, 2019) - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, put together a late comeback after trailing by five but came up short in a 7-5 loss to the Montgomery Biscuits Friday night at Riverwalk Stadium.
For the second straight game, Julian Leon hit a home run. After a two-run shot Thursday for his first Double-A long ball, Leon mashed a three-run dinger in the eighth inning to cut Montgomery's lead to 7-5.
The BayBears (12-15) trailed 5-0 after the first two innings, courtesy of a Josh Lowe home run in the first and four unearned runs in the second. Jeremy Beasley (1-2) exited the game after just 1 2/3 innings, but Bo Way and Zack Kelly kept the Biscuits (17-10) off the board until the seventh.
The BayBears finally got on the board in the seventh inning when Brendon Sanger was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Jahmai Jones followed by grounding into a fielder's choice to plate another run and cut Montgomery's lead to 5-2. However, Sanger and Jones were stranded and the BayBears left seven runners on base in the game.
Kenny Rosenberg (2-0) tossed six scoreless innings, struck out eight batters, and did not allow a hit until the top of the fifth.
The BayBears continue the five-game road series against Montgomery Saturday at 6:05 p.m. Right-handed pitcher Luis Madero (0-1, 11.25 ERA) is scheduled to make the start against southpaw Brendan McKay (0-0, 2.41 ERA) for the Biscuits.
