MOBILE, Ala. (July 30, 2019) - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, tied the game in the eighth inning but were edged 6-5 by the Mississippi Braves Tuesday night at Hank Aaron Stadium.
After falling behind 5-2 in the eighth, the BayBears (41-65 overall, 14-24 second half) rallied with three runs against Connor Johnstone (4-1) in the bottom of the frame. Jhoan Urena plated two with a double, and Julian Leon hit a game-tying two-bagger.
Tyler Carpenter recorded a quality start in a no-decision, allowing three runs on five hits in seven innings. He did not issue a walk and struck out four batters.
Brandon Marsh hit a home run for the second consecutive game. His two-run shot in the third gave the BayBears an early 2-0 advantage.
Ian Anderson struck out nine batters in a six-inning quality start for Mississippi (52-55, 19-19).
Luis Valenzuela put the Braves ahead for good on a sacrifice fly in the ninth against Isaac Mattson (3-3).
The BayBears wrap up the five-game home series against Mississippi Wednesday at 6:35 p.m. Right-handed pitcher Luis Madero (4-8, 5.81 ERA) is scheduled to make the start against righty Jasseel De La Cruz (2-6, 4.19 ERA) for the Braves.
