BayBears shut out for second time in opening series

Sandoval strikes out seven batters over four-plus innings

MOBILE, Ala. (April 6, 2019) - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, were held scoreless in a 5-0 loss to the Pensacola Blue Wahoos Saturday night at Hank Aaron Stadium.Patrick Sandoval (0-1), the Angels No. 4 pitching prospect, struck out seven batters in four-plus innings.

MOBILE, Ala. (April 6, 2019) - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, were held scoreless in a 5-0 loss to the Pensacola Blue Wahoos Saturday night at Hank Aaron Stadium.
Patrick Sandoval (0-1), the Angels No. 4 pitching prospect, struck out seven batters in four-plus innings. However, he gave up an unearned run in the third and was charged for three runs in the fifth.
Devin Smeltzer (1-0) retired the first 12 batters of the game before Jhoan Urena reached with a single to start the fifth. The BayBears (0-3) mustered just two hits against Smeltzer, and the southpaw fanned nine batters in 5 2/3 innings.
After Pensacola (3-0) plated a run on a throwing error in the third, Jimmy Kerrigan led off the fifth with his second home run of the series. The Blue Wahoos sent all nine batters to the plate and added two more runs in the frame.
Brandon Marsh , the Angels No. 3 prospect, recorded his third hit of the series with a single in the bottom of the sixth.
The BayBears continue the five-game home series against Pensacola Sunday at 2:05 p.m. Southpaw Max Herrmann (0-0, -.-- ERA) is scheduled to make the start against right-handed pitcher Griffin Jax (0-0, -.-- ERA) for the Blue Wahoos.
