PENSACOLA, Fla. (April 23, 2019) - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, needed just a single run to defeat the Pensacola Blue Wahoos and snap a four-game losing streak Tuesday night at Blue Wahoos Stadium.
Jeremy Beasley (1-0) pitched five scoreless innings and became the first BayBears (7-11) starter to earn a win this season. He has not allowed a run in his last nine innings pitched, dating back to April 11. Beasley worked out of jams with runners in scoring position in the second and third, and then he retired the final eight batters he faced.
Joe Gatto came out of the bullpen and set down eight more Pensacola (13-6) hitters before running into trouble in the eighth. After a two-out single and a four-pitch walk, Dario Beltre came out of the bullpen and fanned Brian Schales. Beltre struck out the side in the ninth, working around a one-out walk to earn his second save.
Brandon Marsh drove in the game's only run, knocking in Connor Justus with a two-out single to left-center field off Devin Smeltzer (2-1). Marsh finished 2-for-4 at the plate and has a two-hit game in all four series to start the season.
