BayBears sweep doubleheader against Montgomery

Five-run second inning in game one, six-run second in game two

MOBILE, Ala. (August 5, 2017) - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, won both games of a doubleheader Saturday night against the Montgomery Biscuits at Hank Aaron Stadium.
GAME 1:
The BayBears broke a 1-1 tie with a five-run second inning and won the first game 6-2.
Alberto Triunfel and Troy Montgomery both hit RBI singles, Matt Thaiss drove in Triunfel with a sacrifice fly, and Taylor Ward clubbed a two-run homer to deep left field.
Grayson Long (7-6) allowed two runs on five hits in 5 2/3 innings. Greg Mahle got the final four outs of the game.
Justin Williams drove in both runs for Montgomery, with a solo home run in the second inning and an RBI double in the sixth.
GAME 2:
A six-run second inning gave the BayBears (53-58 overall, 23-19 second half) a commanding lead early, leading to an 8-3 victory that increased the win streak to eight games.
The BayBears sent 10 batters to the plate in the second and scored six runs on four hits. Montgomery (60-52, 23-19) made three errors, and Edwin Fierro (6-3) threw three wild pitches in the frame. Francisco Arcia and Brennon Lund both hit RBI singles, and Thaiss hit his second sacrifice fly of the doubleheader.
Jake Jewell (7-8) earned the win, allowing three runs on three hits, all in the third inning. He retired the side in order in his other four innings pitched.
The BayBears added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth on a Zach Gibbons double.
The BayBears continue the five-game home series against Montgomery Sunday at 5:05 p.m. CT. Right-handed pitcher Jaime Barria (1-3, 3.40 ERA) is scheduled to make the start for Mobile against righty Benton Moss (1-3, 3.52 ERA) for Montgomery.
