MOBILE, Ala. (May 26, 2019) - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, scored a pair of runs to erase an early deficit but dropped the series finale 4-2 to the Biloxi Shuckers Sunday afternoon at Hank Aaron Stadium.
The BayBears (19-30) fell behind 2-0 on a Trent Grisham home run in the first inning but rallied with runs in the fifth and seventh. Erick Salcedo scored both runs and finished the game 2-for-4 at the plate with a double.
Zack Kelly pitched a career-high five innings in his first professional start. He tossed four scoreless frames after allowing the home run, and he struck out five batters.
Biloxi (28-22) broke the 2-2 tie on a fielder's choice against Dario Beltre (1-2) in the eighth and added a run of insurance in the ninth. Cody Ponce (1-0) earned the win in relief despite blowing the save, and Luke Barker retired the last four batters to earn his fourth save of the season.
The BayBears begin a 10-game road trip with a five-game series against the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp, beginning Tuesday at 6:05 p.m. CDT. Right-handed pitcher Jeremy Beasley (1-3, 4.54 ERA) is scheduled to make the start against righty Jorge Guzman (1-5, 3.86 ERA) for the Jumbo Shrimp.
