BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (August 6, 2018) - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, tied the game in the seventh inning but could not take the lead, falling 6-4 to the Birmingham Barons in the series finale Monday night at Regions Field.
For the third time in the series, five BayBears (56-55 overall, 19-23 second half) players had multi-hit games. Brandon Sandoval had his third straight two-hit game, with an RBI and a run scored. Jahmai Jones also had his fourth multi-hit game of the series and plated the tying run with an RBI single in the seventh.
Despite tying the game 3-3, the Barons (55-58, 23-22) scored four runs in the final three frames. Two runs came on a pair of errors in the seventh to put them back in front 5-3. Zac Ryan (1-2) took the loss, giving up three runs, two earned, in two innings of relief.
Bernardo Flores limited the damage in a quality start for the Barons, giving up three runs in 6 2/3 innings pitched. Colton Turner (7-2) earned the win in relief, and José Ruiz retired the side in order in the ninth for his 11th save.
Despite being denied a series sweep, the BayBears still won four of the five games in the series and seven of nine against Birmingham overall. It was the best single-season record by a Mobile squad against the Barons in team history, topping the previous mark set in 1998.

Right-handed pitcher Joe Gatto (3-4, 5.59 ERA) is scheduled to make the start against southpaw Seth Varner (6-2, 2.91 ERA) for the Blue Wahoos.
