BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (June 10, 2017) - After letting a pair of leads slip away, the Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, pulled out a 7-5 win over the Birmingham Barons in 13 innings Saturday night at Regions Field.
With the bases loaded in the 13th, Forrestt Allday came through with a two-out, two-run single off Connor Walsh (1-2). Allday went 3-for-4 and reached base six times.
Zach Gibbons also had a three-hit game and hit his second home run of the season. The solo blast to left field put the BayBears in front 5-4 in the 11th, but Birmingham tied the game on Jake Peter's RBI single in the bottom of the frame.
Both teams let two-run leads slip away. After falling behind 2-0 early, Mobile (27-35) plated a run in the seventh and three in the eighth, highlighted by Zach Houchins ' two-run triple. However, Birmingham (22-39) scored once in the bottom of the frame to make the score 4-3, and Hunter Jones drove in the tying run with two outs and two strikes in the ninth.
Jaime Barria matched his career-high with seven innings pitched in a quality start for the BayBears. He allowed two runs, one earned, on six hits with five strikeouts. Birmingham starter Jordan Stephens pitched six scoreless innings in his second Double-A start, giving up five hits and two walks while striking out five.
The BayBears continue the five-game road series against Birmingham Sunday at 3:00 p.m. CT. Right-hander Alex Klonowski (2-2, 2.45 ERA) is slated to make the start against righty Michael Kopech (4-3, 2.93 ERA) for the Barons.
