PENSACOLA, Fla. (May 17, 2019) - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, won their second straight game against the Pensacola Blue Wahoos 8-2 Friday night at Blue Wahoos Stadium.
The BayBears (17-24) plated three runs in the second against Sean Poppen (2-3) and three more in the seventh off Sam Clay to pull away. Brandon Marsh led the charge with three hits, three RBIs, and two runs scored. It was Marsh's seventh multi-hit game and first three-RBI game of the season.
After Pensacola (26-16) plated a pair of unearned runs against Max Herrmann in the fifth, Michael Santos (2-1) entered with two outs in the frame and helped Mobile preserve its lead. Santos got the BayBears out of a bases-loaded jam still ahead 3-2 and allowed just one hit in 4 1/3 scoreless innings of relief.
The BayBears added five runs of insurance over the final three innings. Marsh plated two runs with a seventh-inning single and ninth-inning double. Marsh and Zane Gurwitz , making his Double-A debut, both scored on a Jordan Gore throwing error to cap the scoring in the seventh.
Connor Justus also contributed with an RBI double in the eighth. The BayBears hit a season-high seven doubles in the game.
