MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Jackson Generals, the Double-A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks, scored a 5-2 victory on Saturday night, beating the Montgomery Biscuits at Riverwalk Stadium.

The series-opening conquest muscles the Generals (57-48, 18-18 Second Half) back to a .500 winning percentage in the Second Half, with Montgomery (57-49, 20-16 Second Half) now only two games ahead of them in the Southern League's North Division.
Despite allowing Montgomery to take an early 2-0 lead with a two-run second inning, Generals starter Taylor Widener completed five innings without any other damage done to him. The 23-year-old right hander induced a critical bases-loaded flyout from Montgomery's Nick Solak to finish the fifth inning, departing after 92 pitches. In Widener's place, southpaw Kirby Bellow (5-2, 4.34 ERA) fired multiple scoreless innings for the first time since May 11, and right-hander Tommy Eveld (S, 1) followed suit, combining to hold the Southern League's fastest offense to one hit and zero stolen bases over the final four innings.
The Generals' bats picked their spots, starting with a two-out RBI double in the third from Kevin Medrano that scored Ben DeLuzio for Jackson's first run. In the sixth inning, Rudy Flores went yard for the 13th time this season, with the solo home run tying the contest at 2-2. The timeliest hit was a two-out RBI single from Jamie Westbrook in the eighth inning that scored Medrano, giving the Generals a 3-2 lead. A ninth-inning sacrifice fly from Medrano and a run-scoring single from Domingo Leyba completed the scoring for the Generals, who improved to 8-5 when tied after seven innings.
