BELOIT– The Beloit Sky Carp’s comeback bid fell short Tuesday night in a 6-4 loss to the Quad Cities River Bandits.
Beloit trailed 4-0 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning before rallying for three runs. The River Bandits answered with a pair of runs in the top of the eighth to secure the victory.
Cam Barstad got Beloit on the board with an RBI double, Josh Zamora followed with an RBI single and Jorge Caballero capped the inning with a pinch-hit sacrifice fly to make it 4-3. Beloit was even closer to making its mark in the frame, but left the bases loaded.
Jared Poland got the start for Beloit and allowed three earned runs in 5 1-3 innings to drop to 3-4 on the season. Luarbert Arias was extremely impressive out of the Beloit bullpen. He retired five of the six hitters he faced, all of them going down on strikes.
Zamora was the hitting star for Beloit, finishing with three hits and an RBI. Zach Zubia’s fifth homer of the season in the eighth inning brough the deficit to 6-4.
The Sky Carp and River Bandits will do it again on One Price Wednesday at ABC Supply Stadium. For the price of $18, fans can receive a soda, chips, hot dog and a ticket to the game. Game time is set for 6:35, with gates to the park opening at 5:30.
